📖 Setting up virtual memory is a method to improve system performance, especially when physical memory (RAM) is insufficient. Virtual memory allows the operating system to use hard drive space to simulate physical memory, thereby enhancing program efficiency. Here are the steps to set up virtual memory in a Windows system.
Click the Windows button in the lower-left corner of your computer → Select Settings. In the search bar at the top left of the Settings window, type Advanced system settings and click the result to open it.
In the System Properties window, switch to the Advanced tab, find the Performance section, and click Settings.
In the Performance Options window that pops up, select the Advanced tab. Then click the Change button at the bottom to enter the virtual memory settings.
Uncheck Automatically manage paging file size for all drives. Select the drive with more available memory (usually the D drive), check Custom size, and enter the Initial size (MB): 2048, and the Maximum size (MB): It is recommended to set it to 50%-80% of the available disk space, without exceeding the remaining space on the disk. Click Set, then click OK.
💡Note: The system will prompt you to restart to apply the changes. Click Restart now or restart manually later.
